With James free, they scrambled toward the back exit. Mac rigged a pressurized steam pipe to blow, creating a curtain of scalding fog that masked their escape.
As the mercenaries breached the door, Mac threw a makeshift flash-bang created from magnesium shavings and a camera battery. The blinding light bought him seconds. He used a length of copper wire and a car battery to create a rudimentary arc welder, slicing through the metal bolt holding the beam over his father.
"I wasn't hiding," Mac replied, not looking up from the wrench in his hand. "I was just gone."
