This paper examines David Lowery’s 2021 film The Green Knight , exploring its themes of chivalry, environmentalism, and the deconstruction of the traditional hero’s journey. The Green Knight(2021)
The film’s climax, a twenty-minute visionary sequence, presents a "what-if" scenario where Gawain flees his fate and lives a long, hollow life of misery. By eventually removing his protective green sash—a symbol of his attachment to mortal life—he chooses an honorable death over a dishonorable life, finally earning the title of "knight". 2.
