The story begins with Mari returning to Detroit after trying to find information about her biological parents. Her life changes when she discovers the totem's power during a run-in with local thugs.

The primary antagonist is Kuasa , Mari’s long-lost older sister. Kuasa seeks the totem for herself, believing it is her birthright, and is willing to use lethal force to claim it. Vixen - Season 1
