Due to a bizarre accident involving a horse named Sakura and a misplaced helmet, Mio is challenged to a jousting duel by Bertille Althusser , a second-year knight. Bertille mistakenly believes Mio is an arrogant knight-in-training.
Seeing his childhood friend in trouble, Takahiro Mizuno agrees to act as Mio's begleiter (knight's assistant/coach). Although Mio has no experience with horses or lances, Takahiro begins teaching her the basics.
